Artist's Residency

Since 2010 index sponsors an artist's residency in Zurich, what we call in German: das Freiraum-Stipendium.  Already more than 10 artists from diverse disciplines have profited from the program.

Artist's-Residency

The Artist's-Residency provides rent-free living in an attic-loft at Universitätsstrasse 13, as well as the opportunity to network and discuss artistic ideas with the artists and writers at index.  There is no financial support for the cost of living and, currently, we are unable to provide resident artists with a workroom.  The Residency lasts over the course of 8 to 12 weeks.

Who Can Apply?

The Residency is open to all artists of various disciplines and experience.  However, priority for the space will be given to artists who have had little or no support from other sponsors.  Apart from that there are no constraints on who may apply.

Application Deadlines

The application deadline for a residency from March to September is on the 15th of October.  For a residency from October to February the application deadline is the 15th of May.  The next closing date for applicants who wish to apply for a stay between the 1st of October and the 28th of February, 2013, falls on May 15, 2012.

Participation in the Writers Workshop

At least once during their stay residents are expected to attend the index Writers Workshop.  Residents are of course free to attend the workshops as often as they like (in particular authors, poets, etc.).  If, after the the end of a residency, an artist wishes to continue to take part in the workshops, they are required to go through index's regular admission procedures.

Presentation / Artists Discussion

If the resident so chooses, index will help to organize a public event for the artists (i.e. concerts, readings, exhibitions, etc.).  Residents are also expected to provide a small, artistic contribution in the form of their own choice to leave in the loft.

Organization

The following members of index are responsible for the organization and selection of residents: Andreas Heusser, Annette Lory, and Miriam Erni.  The group is supported by Cornelia Heusser.
